About us π

Hi there π
Somalis for Sustainability was founded in 2023 and is a beacon of empowerment for Somalis globally. Our mission is about fostering a deep understanding of the pressing sustainability and climate issues and opportunities within our community. We are dedicated to illuminating the path towards a sustainable future by nurturing awareness, sparking conversations, and driving actionable solutions.
Our journey so far
Our journey began by participating in a panel on climate change and youth engagement in the Horn of Africa. This opportunity marked the inception of our commitment to catalysing change in our communities.
Building on this momentum, as delegates, we attended the UN Conference of Youth (COY) and COP28, jointly held in Dubai π¦πͺ. This global platform allowed us to amplify our voices, contribute to vital discussions, and forge connections. Most importantly, it allowed us to play an integral role in shaping the discourse surrounding climate action π
Since formally registering earlier this year, we have made great strides in building a sustainable future for our communities.
- We held our launch event in the UK Parliament π¬π§, inviting individuals from the public sector, private sector, academia, NGOs, and other vital stakeholders who are key to helping us achieve our objectives.
- We attended the IEA Summit in Paris π«π· on Clean Cooking in Africa.
- In London π¬π§, we participated in the Diaspora Climate Champions workshop at the IOM - UN Migration.
- Notably, we co-organized the Climate Change in the Somali Context panel in Canada π¨π¦, leading discussions on critical environmental issues specific to Somalia.
- Additionally, we attended the UNECE Forum in Cyprus π¨πΎ, where we explored economic cooperation and sustainable development strategies.
And that's not all...
In late August, with the support of local co-hosts, we hosted Somalia's first-ever UN-backed πΊπ³Local Conference of Youth!
